March 28 marked the 115th anniversary of the birth of Academician of the Russian Academy of Sciences, Alexander L. Yanshin (March 15, 1911–October 9, 1999), Vice President of the Russian Academy of Sciences, Hero of Socialist Labor, USSR State Prize laureate, and a remarkable scientist and organizer of Russian science. Particular emphasis is placed on A.L. Yanshin’s role as President of the Moscow Society of Naturalists and the first president of the Russian Ecological Academy.
