Agro-landscape and ecological zoning of land and fodder resources of the Central natural and economic region for their rational agricultural use

The non-Chernozem region is an important geostrategic region of Russia, where it is necessary to involve unused land into agricultural turnover. Agro-landscape and ecological zoning is the main direction in the adaptive intensification of agriculture, resource and environmental conservation. A highly informative map of the agro-landscape and ecologi­cal zoning of land and fodder resources of the Central Natural and Economic Region of Russia has been developed, highlighting 3 zones (South taiga, broadleaf, and forest-steppe), 6 provinces, and 26 districts. A legend, a classification of forage lands, databases on land, forage lands, negative processes, and an explanatory note have been developed for the map. The materials of agro-landscape and ecological zoning are actively used by several organizations, namely: Federal Williams Research Center of Forage Production & Agroecology in developing recommendations for the improvement and rational use of land and fodder lands; Lomonosov Moscow State University in expanding and replenishing the Soil-geographical database. Cartographic models, natural and climatic characteristics of land and fodder resources agro-landscape and ecological zoning of the Central Natural and Economic Region are in demand and may still be in demand in various fields of science and practice. Science and industry, when developing adaptive crops, plant varieties, technologies and zoning-based farming systems, will be able to make the most effective use of local natural and climatic resources and minimize the development of negative processes.
