Suvorov Museum in the Alps

The grand opening of the renovated Suvorov Museum took place in Schwanden, Canton of Glarus, Switzerland, on June 7, 2026. It commemorates the 1799 campaign of Russian commander Alexander Vasilyevich Suvorov across the Alps. Brief information about Suvorov’s Swiss campaign and the preservation of his memory in modern Switzerland are presented. The work of Swiss historian and enthusiast Walter Heller in collecting historical artifacts and organizing the museum, which for 40 years has introduced local residents and visitors to the story of the Russian army under Suvorov’s command crossing the Alps, telling the story of the commander and the thousands of Russian soldiers who died in the mountains, far from their homeland, is recognized. Undoubtedly, the Suvorov Museum, renovated with the support of businessman Sergei Vasiliev, will become a new factor in improving good-neighborly relations and preserving historical truth.
