Influence of the latest plate geodynamics on the location of hydrocarbon deposits using the example of the Timan-Pechora plate

The relationship between the distribution of oil and gas deposits on the Timan-Pechora Plate and plate geodynamics is examined, which suggests a significant horizontal component of crustal mobility. The Timan-Pechora Plate has undergone a long history of geological and tectonic development, during which numerous oil and gas deposits have formed. Their current location is largely related to the neotectonic uplift of the Urals and its impact on the plate. However, there are morphostructural features that indicate movement of the Pechora Plate toward the mountain structure in recent times. Structurally, the Pechora Plate is divided in its central part into "stable" and "mobile" blocks, extending northwestward. The main "stable" blocks are located in the southwestern (Izhma-Pechora) and northeastern (Bolshezemelsky) parts, with the main "mobile" (Pechora-Kolva) block located between them. The "stable" blocks have different relationships to the Urals, namely: the northeastern block subducts almost perpendicularly, while the southwestern block forms a wedge between the Timan and Ural mountain ranges, with the Ural block pressing on it from east to west. As a result, the blocks shift relative to each other and diverge slightly, causing the space between them to become "mobile." Hydrocarbons rush into this space, forming a chain of the largest oil and gas fields in the area of the Izhma-Pechora and Kolva megaswells located in the upper parts of the block's cross-section. The most favorable conditions are created in the Kolva megaswell, as it is located opposite the Ural knee bend, at the very boundary where the collision regimes of the Pechora Plate and the mountain structure change, and maximum plate wedging occurs, forming an extension zone.
